Sony using Yahoo’s widgets on new range of HDTV

Netgear have announced a new Live Internet TV settop box that will play video streams from Youtube etc. But also has an inbuilt torrent app allowing users across the world to download any TV show or movie they want.
 The new device can play videos from several large streaming sites, including YouTube, Google Video and Metacafe. How?, its true power comes from the built-in BitTorrent client. Millions of shack use BitTorrent to download TV-shows every week, so there are a lot of potential customers out there.
 

What is a torrent?A torrent is a very small file with the suffix .torrent. This file contains the information required to download a file which the torrent was made for. A torrent is one of the most popular ways of downloading big files such as movies internet TV shows and games (although its legality is in question)

A torrent is a slightly dissimilar method of p2p sharing and there are many torrent clients available.

The device also has a USB socket to allow Association of external USB drives. Plug in, and watch all your videos on your big screen TV instantly. Netgear’s Internet TV participant will cost $200, and be available in early Summer 2010.

Not wanting to be left behind, Sony is releasing sevener HDTV sets using the new Yahoo convenience Engine display Youtube video’s, Amazon Video on Demand, plus other internet pulled content straight to the HDTV set.Called Bravia Internet Widgets, they will feature on the latest BRAVIA Models with Interactive Widgets plus Streaming Internet TV and Video.

 Sony new models of HDTV have an Ethernet connection, which allows the tv sets to access Sony BRAVIA Internet Video content through wideband and wifi connections.  
Bravia Internet Widgets, powered by the Yahoo Widget Engine, expand and individualise the TV love by adding on-screen applications that provide such real-time information as weather reports, stock ticker updates, financial news, Yahoo! Video, Flickr images plus other internet based information.

This will start a torrent of hardware manufacturers signing up to the new widget technology and just about guarantee it’s success.
