Sony To Release The PS3 White In Time For Christmas?

With Christmas 2010 creeping up on us, the big console producers have all been trying to improve their systems to try and dominate the market over the festive period. Sony began earlier this year by slimming their PS3 down hugely, whilst Microsoft improved their Xbox 306 console with added features and built in wireless.

Onlookers expect the next move from Sony to be announcing the release of the PS3 Slim White, which has already been available in Japan for some time. Although Sony won’t confirm the speculation, one would imagine Sony are likely to make a move like this in a bid to be the top of the Christmas gifts.

Sony have also announced that they will be adding larger hard-drives to their PS3 consoles, matching the sizes already enjoyed by consumers in Japan. At the moment, PS3 customers in Japan can get their consoles with 160GB or 320GB hard-drives, both of which are much bigger than the European counterparts.

A side-benefit of the new PS3′s from Sony includes the face that older PS3′s are extremely likely to drop in price, meaning they’ll be more affordable for those who simply can’t afford to spend hundreds of pounds on individual gifts. So if you have a young boy in the family and you’re after affordable gifts for him, just wait for the newer PS3 and you should find you can afford the older version, even if it’s second hand.

Sony have confirmed the larger capacity console, but as yet haven’t released details on when the console will be available in the UK or the rest of Europe. In spite of this, most people following the story expect Sony to have released the new console by Christmas this year. In terms of prices, most are expecting the new model to simply replace the older one, meaning it shouldn’t be any more expensive than the current console.
