Difference between the HTC Evo and the Apple iPhone 4
Google and Apple have put out some of the best operating systems on the smart phone market. Applications have provided a great source of income, the mobile web expanded, and phones are slowly replacing computers on the go. The HTC EVO 4G and the Apple iPhone 4 are arguably two of the best smart phones on the market. The Evo 4G has a larger, but lower resolution screen, while the iPhone has superior styling. Both are good machines, and there is not one that is clearly better.
Released around the same time, both the HTC Evo and the iPhone 4 were the best phones for their respective software platforms. Even today, despite having aged a little, they are comparable to more modern devices. That said, they embody two different design philosophies. The iPhone is all about polish. The user interface, the design, the media syncing are all handled in a slick and elegant way that oozes style. It is the thinnest smart phone in the world and is made from glass and metal. The HTC Evo, on the other hand, is a monster. It is thick, has a huge screen and is made of plastic. While it feels cheaper, the design works for it. This phone is so big that it even has a kickstand to have a comfortable viewing angle on a flat surface. And if you want, you can style it up with some HTC Evo accessories.
The Evo 4g has a massive 4.3 inch diagonal screen. The iPhone 4 meanwhile only has 3.5 inch. The size of the device makes the iPhone seem positively dainty, but also makes it very important that you have an HTC Evo screen protector. At 800×480, the HTC Evo has a lower resolution screen than the iPhone, despite the fact that the Evo has a larger screen. 800×480 is still a very good resolution, on a 4.3 inch device.
A major difference between the devices comes down to their network. Apple has an exclusivity agreement with AT&T, which is why the iPhone has not yet migrated to other networks. But AT&T has some issues. Yes, it technically has the fastest 3G network, but there are also some network connectivity problems. AT&T is known for dropping calls, and several major metropolitan areas(New York comes to mind) suffer from poor 3G reception. The HTC Evo, meanwhile, is on Sprint. Sprint’s 3G network is fairly slow, but also extremely stable. If you live in an area with 4G capabilities, you can utilize Sprint’s unique internet connectivity. 4G data speeds easily trump AT&T’s better 3G speeds.
When it comes to battery life, the iPhone easily trumps the Evo 4G. The iPhone can operate up to about seven hours on 3G while the HTC Evo barely gets about five hours. The situation only gets worse if you use other advanced features, too; video chatting and the creation of a Wi-Fi hotspot can drop the battery life into the two to three hour range. That said, you can always get an HTC Evo case that extends the battery life, if you find that you cannot get through a day.
Both of these devices are best of breed phones for their respective operating systems. In a market that is already crowded, they manage to stand out for their advanced features and great design. Which you prefer comes down more to what carrier you have and whether you like the large screen. Some may love the iPhone’s small screen but the others like the Evo’s screen for better web browsing and movie watching. Either way, you will have a smart phone capable of doing things only computers could for a long time.
