In one day 2 strange cancels arrive my mailbox.
The first was a normal one. One I can understand. HP announced they bought WebOS of Palm. Sometime later was announced they cancel the HP Slate with Windows 7 because they found Windows 7 to heavy as OS for their tablet solution. I don’t know if that’s a true reason. I find Windows 7 a good OS. I saw some touch pc’s working with Windows 7 and working really good, better than I expected. But… Hewlett-Packard did kill the HP Slate.
Now an even more strange cancellation. Engadget and Gizmodo were informed Microsoft killed the Courier project. I was hoping for this one. Now I will choose for the Apple iPad… because there is no competition. A pity if you ask me. I would like to use the iPad for reading and fun and using the Courier as my replacement for my traditional journal which I need to buy every some months because it’s full written with notes. The courier would extend my journal and add search and organise functions.
Apple won… but we will see in the future what other products will come into the market.
On several websites in the Netherlands a price of 420 euros for the 16 GB Apple iPad is rumoured. Also a release date of september 2010 is implied. I hope Apple will sooner announce the official price and launch date for the Apple iPad in The Netherlands.
I’m curious when the iPad will arrive in Europe and for which price in Euros. You can compare really easy within all countries who have the euro.
Due to high demand in the USA Apple announced to delay the introduction of the Apple iPad outside the USA for 1 month.
On the international list of iPad countries are at the moment only mentioned :
Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italiy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland and the UK
All other countries have to wait longer to see if in their country the iPad will be available.

What is this. Apple has introduced their iPad and HP comes with the introduction of the HP Slate.
Engadget.com had the exclusive scoop. I read it and I conclude this :
The first thing what I notice is that the HP Slate runs a ‘normal’ operating system, and with normal I mean a full OS. In this case they choose Windows 7 Home Premium. HP did some tweaking for the UI.
The screen is smaller. 8.9″ for the Slate and 9.7″ for the iPad. Resolution same story 1024×600 and 1024×768. I think minor differences.
HP Slate has intel processor and is capable of displaying 1080p (that’s fullhd). It even has a HDMI connector for video out so you can connect it to you LCD/Plasma or FullHD beamer. It also has 1 USB 2.0 port.
The storage is 32 or 64 GB of flash but is upgradable via SD card reader which is a great plus for the HP, the port supports up to 128 GB.
The HP Slate will have approx. 5 hours of running time compared to the 10 hours of the iPad.
HP Slate lacks 802.11 a and n but has normal gps instead of the agps which Apple only provide you on the 3G models.
The slate has 2 cameras, on inward-facing a VGA model and outward facing a 3MP model)
So I think if HP does their homework well, they can accomplish a good product which is worth to wait for.

Apple announced that they shipped 300.000 iPads during the introduction day. That is without the 100.000 pre-ordered iPad 3G version. That’s not bad considering the first iPhone did 270.000 on the first day. Analists expected 700.000 but still it’s not bad for a launch.
Steve Jobs said : “It feels great to have the iPad launched into the world—it’s going to be a game changer,” he continued “iPad users, on average, downloaded more than three apps and close to one book within hours of unpacking their new iPad.” You can read the official press announcement of Apple here.

The first announcements of blogsites and suppliers the Apple iPad is shipped. Soon we all can enjoy the Apple iPad.
I’m also curious. Í’m not a typical Apple user, to tell you straight. I never bought an Apple product before. The limitations of Apple always kept me away from buying it. Maybe the Apple iPad is the first Apple product which manage to have me as an Apple customer. Still hesitating. Microsoft’s Courier is more my kind of device, but how long will it take to be on the market. The Apple iPad is a good gadget to show and use. The Courier I think will be the best Nerd gadget for eBooks and taking notes… We will see soon.
Time will learn us.
